Water your air plant for 20-30 minutes. Do not use distilled water or softened water (due to the salt). Use filtered water or tap water that has sat long enough for the chlorine to dissipate. Bottled water, rain water & aquarium water work best. Keep a picture in your mind of how your plant looks healthy. Allow the plant to dry before adding to your terrarium.

-
Air plants do best in open containers.
-
Decide how you want to arrange your terrarium before you begin.
-
You may want to consider having tweezers or chop sticks handy for plant, moss & decoration placement depending on the container.
-
Fill the bottom of the container with sand, gravel or rock. This layer does not have to be perfectly flat. You can create “hills” to add character to the landscape.
-
Place the air plant in the container. Ensure the plant is not touching the side of the glass.
-
Arrange reindeer or other decorative moss on the sand, gravel or rock layer.
-
Add extra rock, figurines or other decoration to create your own miniature landscape.
-
Place your terrarium in a location that has bright but indirect sunlight. Florescent lighting works the best for air plants. Direct sunlight will intensify the sunlight & the heat which you don’t want.
